What is a Life of Significance?
Living a Life of Significance is the product of the courage to ponder what’s truly resonant within yourself. Nurture this with confidence and persistence and over time it will manifest as your life’s work. It unfolds and evolves over a lifetime, but the feeling of living by self-defined value and purpose is irreplicable, and, we believe at VALTA, vital.
Self-actualization is a term you may have heard before — Abraham Maslow’s pinnacle of the hierarchy of human needs. Beyond food, water, shelter; beyond the ego and belonging; beyond validation and even love, in the common sense — what really matters?
Past external measures of success, what matters to you, organically? For many, being a blessing to the people around them becomes a legacy that extends well beyond wealth and mortality. What exactly does that mean, to you? VALTA grew out of CEO Dominique Vercaemert’s own personal roadmap to self-actualization. One of the paths his own Life of Significance has taken is in serving others through financial shepherdship, helping his clients to define and pursue their own lives of purpose.
Your Life of Significance begins with you. Are you honoring the voice within? It’s funny how often the things we’ve been striving for seem to fall right into our laps when we listen to, and act upon, the things that resonate uniquely within us.
As a financial advisor, what is the importance of leading your own Life of Significance?
Let’s look at Maslow’s hierarchy again, but this time from a business perspective. The bottom tier would just be the basics: a place to do business and a way to generate income, right? What are the ensuing tiers comprised of? We don’t think of a business as ‘self-actualizing;’ rather, the question becomes how do the businesspeople integrate the manifestation of their own call to service with the success of their work? The key is in the definition. How you define success is how you will measure the wealth and worth of your practice
So often, advisors feel unfulfilled by what should (and could!) be their livelihood. We have a unique opportunity as business owners to listen for, define, and harness our own direction in order to successfully lead others to uncover theirs. It is this service, in whatever form it takes for you, that leads to your own life of purpose.
How do we begin?
Living a Life of Significance begins with clarifying your values and understanding what’s paramount to you so that you can do the same for your clients. Helping your clients make choices about their money based on their own values is its own reward. Step out of your own way, lead by example, and you’ll be amazed at the success that follows.
